Gourds are products of nature and their shape is determined by the seed. Every Ipu and Ipu Heke is a unique individual and unfortunately cannot be "shaped" to order. Each gourd will have marks reflecting its growth in the field, and will have a personality all its own. With Ipu Hekes, we do our best to match the color, thickness, pattern markings, sound tones, and neck size to provide you with a beautifully crafted drum.

All of our Ipu and Ipu Heke drums are natural color. Most are finished with a light gloss protective coating, which enhances the natural look and gives them a healthy sheen. Please let us know if you would like your Ipu Heke unfinished, in order for you to woodburn or carve.

Every Ipu we sell really is an Ipu - Gourds that don't sound good are "recycled" into vases and bowls. Ipus with rare characteristics such as extraordinary color, markings or size will be slightly more expensive.

We specialize in custom projects, and are often able to ship a small order within 1 (one) week. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for large orders or rainy / humid weather. PLEASE send a drawing if you require a particular shape!

Options:

Ipu Heke cordage available for $2.00.  Choose black, burgundy, brown, beige, white, or 2-color combination.

Ways To Save:

1. Up to 50% off for "Discount" and "Ugly" Ipus. Reduced prices for imperfect appearance. Great for studio or classroom use, and even on stage they'll look and sound fine. An excellent value!
2. If you have a retail store or Halau, be sure to ask about quantity discounts.

Shipping:

Allow 1 to 4 weeks from receipt of your order.  Please be sure to include a telephone number and/or email address so we can confirm your order and shipment date.

We ship mostly via US Priority Mail, insured.  Postal rates are based on weight, distance, and box size.  Ipu Heke or Quantity orders often require an extra large box which entails a postal surcharge.  A small charge will be added to help defray the cost of packing materials, and a $5 fee for international shipping forms and customs paperwork.
